Summer in Perth City means it’s Fringe World Festival time. Watch as the Perth comes alive with culture and pizzazz as events pop up in the City, Northbridge and beyond.
We’ve had a look at the Fringe World program (all 140 pages of it!) and narrowed it down to our favourite must see shows. Expect show stopping comedy, jaw dropping aerial performances, drag, family friendly shows and more! If 2018’s stand-out performance is anything to go by, Club Swizzle is the Fringe World event to beat. Club Swizzle will once again be transforming the Ice Cream Factory into the world of your dreams. Expect a whole new show, with a new line up of performers from acrobats to cabaret queens.

Indigenous dance as you’ve never known it. Djuki Mala have become dance sensations for their internationally acclaimed productions, mixing traditional dance with pop culture and storytelling for a comedic finish that’ll warm the heart. If there’s one dance to see, it’s this.

Briefs continues to sell out year after year and for good reason. This circus x drag x dance x burlesque x comedy ticks all the boxes and will leave you equal parts in awe and stitches. Catch your favourite Briefs boys in all their sassy glory for an “evocative, irreverent and physical performance” (Briefs Factory).

Winners of Best Production and Best Ensemble at the 2018 Green Room Awards, YUMMY, return to Fringe World 2019 with their new show YUMMY DELUXE. This fabulous mix of drag, circus, music and burlesque is not to be missed.

Aurora Galore and the Glamourous Weirdos
Live life on the dangerous side with Aurora Galore and her Glamorous Weirdos as they experiment with fire, circus, burlesque and more. Described as “Intriguingly textured — at times disturbing” by Out in Perth, 2016.

Dali After Dark
Experience a glimpse at the wacky world of Salvador Dali. Renowned as a surrealist sensation, Dali’s artwork is on display at Metro City. Explore unusual paintings, sculptures, life-size interactive art and film explorations. Opening night will feature the Surrealist Ball; an exclusive, black-tie event mimicking the world famous Dali ball’s.

A Midnight Visit
Do you have a love for choose-your-own-adventure books? Then this is the show for you. Part choose-your-own, part film set and part playground, A Midnight Visit is an immersive performance featuring Lizzie Ried, a troubled young ghost. Set in the Old Girls School, experience a world where Stranger Things meets David Lynch.

Matt Tarrant: more unsolved
5-time Adelaide Fringe Award winning Magic and Mentalism master Matt Tarrant returns with more magic than ever before. He’ll leave you wondering what is illusion….and what is reality?

Chris Henry: around the world in 80 dates
Chris Henry is well known for his self-aware observational comedy, which he takes to new heights with his new comedy Around the World in 80 Dates. Watch as Chris takes you through his transformation from playboy to husband, in the ultimate anti-rom-com.

The Great British Hate Off
This show is exactly as you’d imagine: The Great British Bake Off meets angry rants. The only difference is that you get to choose the recipe for disaster. This improvised show relies on audience participation to choose the topics: “hate on Trump? Millennials? Or the mating rituals of gerbils? It’s up to you!”

Children are Stinky
Children are Stinky is the children’s comedy act selling out around the globe. A creative and compelling mix of circus, 90s music and outrageous hilarity, Children are Stinky encourages children to step on stage to join in the fun. Expect kid and adult participation in this interactive show.

Summer is out in Perth City and the mermaids have returned to catch some rays. Come and say hi to the friendly mermaids and you might be lucky enough to hear a story or two. Best bring a towel though – the mermaids like to splash around!

I’m Boooored (free)
High energy, fast paced workshops are exactly what every bored child needs in the school holidays. Australian Institute of TheatreSports has your summer school holidays in Perth City sorted with free workshops for kids aged 8 – 14 years.

Still don’t know what to watch at Fringe World? City of Perth has partnered up with Fringe to bring teasers from some of the best shows to you for free! The teasers are family friendly and conveniently located near the main box office at Yagan Square.
